About the NDIS
The NDIS can feel overwhelming at first. It doesn't have to be.
The National Disability Insurance Scheme is Australia’s commitment to making sure people with permanent and significant disabilities have the funding and support they need to live the life they choose. Not the life someone else decides for them. Their life, their way.
If you or someone you love has a disability, the NDIS may be able to provide direct funding for the services and supports that matter most. Personal care, getting out into the community, transport, building skills and independence. The NDIS is designed to help make all of it possible.
Is the NDIS for me?
To be eligible for the NDIS you generally need to:
Be between the ages of 7 and 65. Have a permanent and significant disability that affects your ability to take part in everyday activities. Be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or hold a Protected Special Category Visa.
The NDIS covers a wide range of conditions including physical, intellectual, cognitive, neurological, sensory, and psychosocial disabilities. Eligibility is assessed based on the functional impact of your disability, not just your diagnosis.
The NDIS website has a helpful eligibility checklist if you want a starting point, but the NDIA makes the final call.
How do I apply?
The first step is submitting an Access Request Form to the NDIS. You will also need to provide information about your disability and the kinds of support that would help you day to day. Your GP, specialists, or allied health workers can help you pull this information together.
The process takes some time, so it is worth taking a breath and thinking carefully about your goals and what support would actually make a difference in your life before you begin.
You don’t have to figure this out alone.
Navigating the NDIS for the first time can feel like a lot. The paperwork, the terminology, the decisions — it adds up.
That is exactly why we’re here. Our team at Mycarehub is happy to help you make sense of the process, understand your options, and work out what supports might be right for you. No obligation, just a real conversation.
